blog 5-23

Today was the final day of senior project at Country Club of New Hampshire. I started off as I usually do by moving some carts around and making the line look nice. This morning was men's league, so there were a lot of golfers out before I arrived. When they all started to return, I had a lot of carts to clean and dry. I then went out on the refurbished cart picker and picked the range for a little while. When I got back from the I washed all of the balls and put them in the dispenser. I then brought my folder into the clubhouse and had Derek sign all of my senior project paperwork before I left. 4 hours today, 58 total hours.

Today was the twelfth day of senior project at the Country Club of New Hampshire. I started off the day by moving some carts out of the barn onto the line. Making sure everything looks nice for golfers. I noticed a cart that looked a little beet up off in the corner, so I went to check it out. Turns out there were some kids last night who took a cart out and beat the living hell out of it. They were driving through bunkers and onto greens, along with many other acts. We had a little criminal investigation on our hands because there were more than $1,500 dollars in damages. We looked through the tee sheet and conversed with the starter, and narrowed down the culprits. After that, I hit some balls on the range. 4 hours today, 54 total hours.

week 2 reflection

During this week's five days at the Country Club of New Hampshire, I gained valuable insights and developed various skills related to golf course operations. In the first three days, I  focused on tasks such as range maintenance, cart organization, and equipment management. I learned the importance of keeping the range clean by removing divots and picking up balls. I also became familiar with the process of moving and organizing carts to ensure an efficient flow. Additionally, I was introduced to the responsibilities associated with managing the rental clubs, organizing them properly, and sorting the miscellaneous clubs in the old pro shop. These experiences enhanced my understanding of the behind-the-scenes operations at the club.  On the fourth day, I had the opportunity to deal with customer service-related challenges. I addressed complaints from golfers about slow play and effectively resolved the dispute. This experience highlighted the importance of effective communication an

Today was the eleventh day of senior project at Country Club of New Hampshire. It was a beautiful day out, and the tee sheet was almost completely full this morning. I started off the day by moving some carts around. I also helped some older folks take their clubs from their car and put them onto their cart. Once things mellowed out a bit, Spanky and I went over the bank in Andover to deposit some cash from the week. Once I returned, Derek and I went into the old pro shop and started organizing the clutter of golf clubs scattered everywhere. After things were looking nice in there, it was back to the usual of washing carts and replacing carts in the line with cleaned and charged carts. 4 hours today, 50 total hours.

Today was the tenth day of senior project at Country Club of New Hampshire. It was very cold this morning, but there were actually a lot of golfers headed out to play when I arrived. There were a lot of carts out of line, so Karl and I got to work making sure everything looked nice. Since it was already busy on the course, Karl and I headed out on the cart to do some rangering. There was a group that flagged us down and complained about the group in front of them playing slow, so Karl and I dealt with the dispute. I then hit some balls on the range since it was warming up some. I was hitting the balls so well on the range I decided to go play 9 holes. It was a great decision to do so, I enjoy playing golf alone and I played well. I shot a 44. 6 hours today, 46 total hours.

Today was the ninth day of senior project at Country Club of New Hampshire. I started off the day by picking the range. Whoever was working last night did a terrible job, so I had a lot of balls to pick up and wash. It was freezing cold out today so there were not too many golfers going out. However, there was a group of men checking into the hotel. Derek gave me the rundown on hotel reservations and how CCNH meal plan works for their guest. After some time spent inside warming up, there were some old umbrellas that needed to be moved into Jim's trucks, so I did so. I would normally hit balls towards the end of my day, but it was too damn cold. 4 hours today, 40 total hours.

Today was the eighth day of senior project at Country Club of New Hampshire. It was cold and overcast today so there were not to many golfers going out this morning. I started off the day by organizing some carts and making the kind of carts look pretty. I then helped Karl pick some range balls and clean them. Karl and I then went into the woods boarding the range and picked out as many balls as we could. After that, the course pro Derek asked me if I wanted to go out and play on the course so I took him up on that. On the course, I really focused on smart shots and not taking unnecessary risky shots. This affected my score for the better but I felt like I played worse. 5 hours today, 36 total hours.

Today was the seventh day of senior project at Country Club of New Hampshire. I started off the day by cleaning up divots on the range with a leaf blower, rake, and shovel with Spanky and Joe. After the range looked good as new, Spanky and I moved some carts around and organized the line of carts. After that was done with Spanky and I went off to the bank in Andover to deposit some cash from the weekend. When we got back, there were some carts that had been returned that needed washing. I finished up cleaning carts and went inside to talk to Derek and Mark about the week ahead of us. The last hour today I spent on the range, hitting some balls and working on my game. I am focusing on my driver and bringing my hands straight back, and when I get to the top of my backswing "loading and cocking" my wrist. This is said to add 20-30 yards to your drive. 4 hours today, 31 total hours.

week 1 reflection

Over the first week of senior project at the Country Club of New Hampshire, I gained valuable experience and knowledge about various aspects of working at a golf course. Throughout the week, I was mentored by Joe and Karl, who taught me the ropes and showed me different responsibilities. During the first two days, I focused on learning about the driving range and cart maintenance. I practiced hitting balls at the driving range and then picked and washed the range balls. I also learned how to clean golf carts, put up umbrellas, and ensure the smooth flow of play on the course. On the second day, I delved deeper into cart maintenance, cleaning all the carts, and checking for battery corrosion. I also assisted golfers by cleaning their carts and plugging them in.  On the third day, the workload shifted as it was a slow day at the course. I worked with Joe to organize and clean rental clubs, ensuring each bag had the correct number of clubs. I also tackled the task of organizing numerous m

Today was the sixth day of senior project at Country Club of New Hampshire. Since it is a Saturday morning and it is sunny and warm out, the course is busy, and there are golfers everywhere. This morning's main focus was organizing carts and ensuring everyone got through the first tee box smoothly. Once the first flood of golfers had gotten off, I started picking the range. After some improvements the maintenance men added to the cart it is much quieter than before. Many balls were on the range since the cart was not running yesterday. I wanted to go out and play CCNH but since it's the first nice Saturday of the year the tee sheet was booked solid, I settled for another bucket of balls on the range. 4 hours today, 27 hours

Today was the fifth day of senior project at Country Club of New Hampshire. It was another slow day at the course. There were a few folks who headed out early for a full 18 holes. Some carts were missing from the line so I pulled some out of the cart barn and replenished the line of carts. As some of the regulars showed up I checked in with them to see how everything was and help them load up their cart. I was planning on picking the range but the range cart was missing, after some investigation, I found out it was in maintenance getting worked on. I strolled my way on over to the maintenance to see some of the guys there welding the cage back onto the cart where the welds had previously snapped. I asked if they needed any help, but my collared shirt and khakis must have convinced them I would be no help.  I finished up my day at CCNH by hitting some balls at the range. 4.5 hours today, 23 total hours.

Today was the fourth day of senior project at Country Club of New Hampshire. Another slow day at the course. Not too many folks had tee times this morning, so Karl, Joe, and I started on some cart maintenance. We went through the remaining 15 carts we didn't get to the other day and checked the battery terminals. We only found two terminals with corrosion today, so we fixed those up nicely. There was a cart that came back last night with a broken windshield, so Karl and I took a windshield off an old cart and swapped it with the broken one on a newer cart. As a few of the early morning golfers came in, I helped them bring their clubs to their car, washed the carts, and plugged them in. I finished off the day at CCNH by hitting some balls at the range. 5 hours today, 18.5 total hours.

Today was the third day of senior project at Country Club of New Hampshire. It was a pretty slow day at the course, so there was not too much work revolving around the driving range or golf carts. Instead, Joe and I sorted through all of the rental clubs and organized all of them. We made sure every bag had the proper amount of clubs. We also cleaned all of the clubs and organized the bags accordingly. When we finished with that, we turned to the old pro shop where there are hundreds of miscellaneous clubs lying around. All of these clubs have accumulated from people leaving them out on the course. I was tasked with organizing all of the clubs into specific boxes according to the loft of the golf club. 4 hours today 13.5 hours total.

Today was the second day of senior project at Country Club of New Hampshire. Started off the day by learning about cart maintenance. We cleaned all of the carts and checked the battery terminals for corrosion. If a connection point was corroded, we would clean off the corrosion and spray some preventative spray on there. I then went out on the range with the ball picker and picked the range of all of the range balls. When all of the baskets were full on the picker I returned to base and washed all of the balls. Then some golfers came in from their round so I cleaned their carts and plugged them in. 5 hours today 9.5 hours total.

Today was the first day of senior project at Country Club of New Hampshire. I met all the guys that work there and got a good feel for the place. Started off the day by hitting some balls at the driving range and then learned about picking balls from the range and washing them. Then the gentleman in charge of the cart barn, Joe, showed me the ropes for cleaning golf carts and putting up umbrellas. Joe then showed me around the course for a little bit, and we made sure everyone was keeping the pace of play and made sure no one was acting up. By the time Joe and I finished up out on the course, it was time to move some golf carts around and make everything look nice. Finished up the day hanging out in the pro shop and learning more about CCNH. 4.5 hours today
